Back in 1982 we bought our first video recorder. At the time, their were two competing formats, VHS and Betamax. Reviews at the time said that Betamax was the better quality so that's what we got. With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, it was the wrong choice but the outcome is that I have a drawer full of old Betamax tapes from the 1980s that have never been overtaped.
As a Norwich City fan, I used to record matches when they were on TV. Often they would be shown before I got home from the match so I could watch the recording when I got home. Often, the programs contained the ad breaks, so rather than discard them, I've uploaded those that weren't edited out at the time.

That Justin Fashanu Goal - plus the Match of the Day Highlights
The match highlights of the Norwich City vs Liverpool game on 9th February 1980.
Most will have seen the goal many times but here are the highlights from Match of the Day - long before the days live league football was shown on the TV.
Barry Davies' commentary is timeless. Today, the goal would have just been celebrated with a scream of 'FASHANUUUUUU!'. Today's commentators could learn a thing or two.
Couple of other things to note. At halftime, they show the new River End Stand which cost over one million pounds. I was working in the Commercial Department of the club at the time and we raised the money to build that stand from the proceeds of lottery ticket sales. Also, VAR may have had something to say about the Kenny Dalglish penalty claim. Can't believe that wasn't given.

20th January 1990 - Norwich City vs Man Utd. Alex Ferguson needs a win.
Переглядів 5232 місяці тому
20th January, Manchester United are one place above the relegation spots and the crowds and journalists are calling for his head. Norwich City are having one of their best spells under Dave Stringer. Apologies for the quality of the video, the tape is in worse quality than usual. The Carrow Road floodlights didn't look much better. I was standing in the River End on the City Stand side and have...
The full Bayern Munich - Norwich City match

The full match of Bayern Munich vs Norwich City at the O;ympic Stadium in Munich on 19th October 1993. The BBC had the rights to the game but decided not to show it live but show highlights later in the evening (fearing a Norwich thrashing I presume). I had located a German TV station on Satellite that was showing the game so was prepared to watch it live with German commentary but Sky Sports t...

From the dying embers of the Gleen Roeder era, a 2-1 win at the City Ground, Nottingham. Within 6 weeks he'd be gone to be replaced by Bryan Gunn in a caretaker role. Several forgettable and forgotten loan players featured, a theme from that season. Good to see Wessi on the field though and playing in the black away strip.
1993 UEFA Cup 2nd Round Norwich City vs Bayern Munich - Full Match

The second leg of the Norwich-City-Bayern Munich tie after City's historic 2-1 away win at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. I was working in Chelmsford at the time and a 5pm finish would mean I'd be able to make the start of the game at 7:30 or 7:45. So the BBC asked the game to be moved forward to 7pm! I got to my seat just in time to see Bayern Munich score.

A nice goal by Iwan Roberts gives Norwich the lead but they slip to another defeat due to the spectaular winner from PNE Captain Sean Gregan. I'm guessing that's on his craeer highlights reel. Preston were managed at the time by David Moyes

Pitch looks awful
Did he send the wrong player off?
I was there.

Great build-up for Millwall's second goal - especially on that pitch.
forever the quintessential iconic goal of the season!for some unknown particular reason amongst hundreds of fantastic goals.the very second that I saw that goal on match of the day that night,it was forever more the goal of the season which I always always remember!Barry Davies?just capped it all off!
I was at that game, down the other end, the only place we could get in. I knocked someone unconscious on the terrace after celebrating Dickens’ goal. It’s ok though, we were divorced a few weeks later. 🤓
i sneaked into the members end, on my mates pass, brilliant game ,
@David Branch - Do you have the full MOTD Highlights of CHELSEA [vs] NORWICH 2004-05 or the full match of FULHAM [vs] NORWICH 2004-05 on Sky Sports English by any chance?
I I have, I’m not allowed to upload it. The Premier League have it pulled straight away
@@dbranch9 - Well then why not put it on Internet Archive by any chance? Or perhaps on DailyMotion if possible?
I am a Portsmouth supporter and was there that day. I believe Norwich have been promoted three times at Portsmouth, this game, 1-0 Simeon Jackson and one other occasion. Anyone remember when?
Yeh ....that Man Utd manager whoever he is won't be there for long ....!

Cheers David from another David. Bless you and takecare from Narch!
Getting bann3d from Europe curtailed our club. Cheers Maggie!
Or possibly without euro distraction we were promoted the following season . Norwichs highest positions in top division were in 1987 ,1989 , 1993 - not exactly 'euro hangovers'
Yellow and green. The oldest colours in world football.
Ex Norwich player saved Alex's carreer and the rest is history.
One pound to get in for a child at the Barclay end. Great days! Bless you and takecare
Surprised the ref didn't ask for the Leicester pen to be taken again, as Keelan clearly moved well before Worthington hit it.
This was the relay on the following Wednesday.
Hell of an atmosphere at the old Den.
I too was at this game, with my parents as an 18yo visiting Norwich (my home town). I still remember the crowd chanting, "Peters for England" when he scored our second goal.
Was at this game, QPR had massive support down for this one, great game for City to snatch all points.
Groblelaar was vasty over rated. Always running around the penalty area, and beyond like a headless chicken. Poor Mike Hooper never really got much of a look in.

Great day. I was in the River End . Good to see terraces and no shirt sponsorship.. Gerry Harrison was a decent commentator, though we all suspected an Ipswich Town fan . I still don't know . One of life's mysteries . Lol

74/75 was the period I started going to Carrow Road. Great times.
I was there that night. So cold but we hardly noticed! 4 blokes in a Vauxhall Astra for three days. That car was never the same again! 😂😂😂
Thanks for uploading - I was at the game & there wasn't much elbow room ..... is this the season we lost 1-0 to a rather poor Brighton team in the QF ?
Brilliant upload! Thank you. Man utd fan here and you cannot beat the 90s

What an amazing night!
Thanks for uploading this, spotted myself in the celebrations after the FT whistle. 😃
Mick McGuire was a very fine player for Norwich, great to see him in this game.
A lot better when they played under the lights, rather than at midday.
Wonka
Great memories. An amazing performance from a team ravaged by injuries and suspensions.
The samba was my first car I owned after passing my car test in 1991, I think it was a 1986 reg and cost me £300. It served me well for a year or two and made the trip from Aberystwyth (Uni) to Bexhill on Sea (Parental Home) on numerous occasions without issue. I sold it for £400😊 I had some great times with my mates in it. Definitely looking through rose tinted glasses though
